All about the little Weirdieland inhabitants

We are all taking on the role of Alice in Wonderland this year, and what better theme to do so with our kids?  2013 is going to be a pivotal year for us, so lets hope those Mayans just ran out of stuff to make their calendars.  For starters, we are no longer going to be a homeschool family.  I love homeschooling, I really do, but I also recognize that its not for everyone or every situation.  With all of our changes coming up this year, for right now, its best that the kids are in public school.  For now.  Who knows what will happen in 2014.  God will provide what we need when we need it.  This schooling change is going to affect Little Queen the most as she is the oldest and in the 1st grade.  She is also the least adaptable of the three children.  Through love, laughter, LOTS of hugs, and what we hope is a semi-stress-free home life, Daddy and I hope that this change will be accepted by her willingly.  As of right now she is excited to go and make friends, as long as she gets new clothes (OY!  It has started at 6!)  I hope that attitude lasts.  This change is to help us adapt to other changes coming up.  Daddy and I are going to be busy little playing cards getting things ready.  The house has to be painted, prepped, and staged.  We are selling.  Daddy has taken a transfer from our current city of St Louis to one in Boston, 1200 miles away.  We know NO ONE in Boston.  All our family and friends are here.  We are EXCITED for this journey and this opportunity for an entire new life.  Don't get me wrong, our old one is not bad, just...stale.  We are ready for new and fresh, exciting.  Ocean air and snow and no more 108 degree/90% humidity summers!  As scary as the thought of moving may seem, I have been smiling non-stop since I got the news and we made the decision.  We are very fortunate that his company needs to replace him in the St Louis office still so we aren't moving right away.  Daddy will have to travel a bit more than he does now and there will be a lot of telecommuting involved but that works out WELL to our benefit.  We are so blessed.  How many people in this country can say that they are blessed by their employers?

Before I go, allow me to introduce you to our other blessings, the kids.  Three of them, all girls.  We also have 2 dogs and a cat (and a partridge in a pear tree).  OK, so maybe not ALL aspects of the actual move make me smile.  Can I strap the spastic puppy to the roof while we move?

Little Queen of Hearts is 6, in the first grade and has been homeschooled for the past year and a half.  Just your average, normal, eldest kid in the family.  Likes to "mother" the other two and sometimes forgets that they really do have a mommy already.  Likes to be in charge in all its endearing ways and is extremely self-sufficient. Being in charge does have its advantages though, she gets to be the role model for her sisters and teach them all the things that mom can't.  So far they've tackled jumping on the bed, pushing stuff under the bed instead of cleaning your room, and feeding your veggies to the dogs.  She  likes to play pretend, write in her journal, and image up new stories.  She is starting public school in January and is ready to go make new friends.  Did you know Little Queens aspire to be architects or artists when they grow up?  (By the way, I am TOTALLY going to make this Queen of Hearts costume, is it not the cutest little thing you have ever seen?)

Little Mad Hatter is 5.  While homeschooling she is in kindergarten, but due to public school cut off dates, she will start public kindergarten in the fall.  This will put her ahead of the rest of the kids in her class, but she is super adaptable so whatever.  Having her two years in school away from Little Queen hopefully will help with the fighting.  Our Little Mad Hatter is quite the creative mind and often lives in her own little world.  Most of the stories on here are in fact TRUE QUOTES straight out of Little Mad Hatters mouth.  Yes, she really told us she wants to live in Weirdieland, aka Florida, when she grows up.  Little Mad Hatter along with Little Cheshire Cat keep the laughter and warm fuzzies in our household.

Last, but not least, and certainly not the quietest, we have Little Cheshire Cat (or sometimes Angry Bird).  Often testing my patience, but oddly insightful, our little terrible two is helping to shape Daddy and I to be the parents that WE want to be.  Not the parents that our parents were, not the parents that society, or our neighbors, or our church tells us to be, but that WE want to be.  I truly believe God sent her to us not as a miracle to instantly show us everything we need, but as this amusing little enigma that we can't quite figure out.  Of course, its all very funny to watch as an on looker, and a good dose of laughter to recall later as I blog for you.

Daddy and I are just along for the ride to provide the meals and other necessities like cool clothing and rides to dance class.  This blog is really more for us to document our changes as a family and our trek across the country to seek out new life and new civilization....wait no that's something else.  We are going to Boston.  Eventually.  If the anticipation doesn't kill me first!!!!

Down the rabbit hole

"Daddy"  asked the Little Queen, "when I grow up can I live anywhere I want to live?"

"Of course Little Queen" said Daddy "You can live anywhere in the whole wide world that you want, you are a Little Queen after all."

Little Mad Hatter excitable jumped up and down.  "Ooh ooh, me too Daddy??!!  I'm going to live in Weirdieland!"

"Oh?"  inquired Daddy with a puzzled looked on his face.

"Yes!" Continued Little Mad Hatter, "but you know it as Florida."

And so our journey begins.  Over the next year we will be rediscovering who we are as a family, changing our family dynamic, and if everything goes as planned, enjoying copious amounts of hilarity along the way.
